Body image is the way you see yourself and imagine how you look. Having a positive body image means that, most of the time, you see yourself accurately, you feel comfortable in your body, and you feel good about the way you look. Over time I developed a certain mentality, I began to feel a sort of confidence that I never wanted to lose. Even though I didn't always feel great or look great, at the end of the day I was still happy with who I was. I didn't need to count calories or go for runs after I had a good meal.
Most people didn't understand my attitude towards myself because when other girls talk about how ugly they look, or fat they look in those jeans.. I never joined in on it. I never looked perfect in photos but that didn't stop me from posting them. I enjoyed the way I felt when I was myself, when I truly just let the real me show. Not just girls do this, even guys can put themselves down for the way they look.
In the teenage years it gets harder and harder for kids to grow up in this generation. Surrounded by phones, Instagram, Twitter, and the social media presence makes it harder for kids to compare themselves to others. We become so invested in being what society sees as PERFECT, and we think that if we don't look PERFECT like the girls in the magazines and on Instagram then we are not good enough.
Everyone deserves to feel beautiful in their own skin. Wearing makeup shouldn't determine the way you see yourself. Both girls and guys deserve to be happy with the way they look and should never feel uncomfortable with themselves.
